Adopted in 1879 and intended for use with the .450/577 Martini-Henry artillery carbine for use as a sword and bayonet with sawback for cutting timber beams used in artillery emplacements. This bayonet also fits many of the Martini-Henry infantry rifles that have a bayonet lug on the side of the upper barrel band. The blade exhibits numerous official military markings including "WD" (War Department), inspection stamps, and an issue date of 84 for 1884 on the ricasso. Blade is bright with evidence of an older light cleaning. A light patina is starting to set in. Smooth leather grips remain intact with wear. The bayonet is complete with its brass mounted leather scabbard that features crazing and patina. Matching leather frog is intact and supple with horseshoe maker mark on reverse. CONDITION: Good.
