Circa 1870s-1900. 6 - 7/8" blade with an overall length of 11 - 3/8". Single edged spear point blade marked on its face "STEER & WEBSTER" with company trademark, and on ricasso "CASTLEHIL[L] WORKS SHEFFIELD". The finely checkered ivory scales conceal a slide-out cigar punch and a lancet, as well as a fold-out corkscrew. The nickel silver guards are made in two halves and pinned on. Complete with the original red Morocco leather sheath. CONDITION: The blade appears to be in antique near mint condition with only scattered spidering, the reverse handle is chipped across the butt end. Sheath with scuffed surface. Steer and Webster, founded in 1845, is a maker whose mark is not often found on bowie knives. This knife represents a distinctly British form of the bowie knife, an exceptional example of Victorian-era Sheffield workmanship at its finest. Formerly part of the Tommie Jones collection.
