For a nearly identical example, see Fig. 7 on page 114 of "Indian Tomahawks & Frontiersmen Belt Axes" by Hartzler & Knowles. The tomahawk is identified as a late period "smoak[sic] tomahawk". The thin iron head measures 8 - 1/8" overall. Flared blade with spur on bottom and crescent cutting edge. Rounded bowl with relief ring around opening. The later haft measures 19 - 1/2" and has a Peter cap on top, a pewter mouthpiece and a silver flower inlay on left side. CONDITION: Head retains a dark heavy patina and shows deep pitting throughout.
