For a short saber with a very similar hilt, see plate 144.S on page 109 of "Swords and Blades of the American Revolution" by George C. Neumann. Neumann dates this pattern circa 1770-1785. Slightly curved blade with double fullers and false edge. Classic four-slot iron guard with fluted knucklebow and gadrooned pommel with integral capstan. Bone grip. Complete with later associated brass mounted black leather scabbard. CONDITION: Blade has been cleaned and now retains a pitted grey patina. Hilt retains a heavy brown patina with some corrosion. Grip is excellent. Scabbard shows some cracking and losses to finish, mounts associated. A very nice English Revolutionary War period sword.
