This is a wonderful example of a late 19th century singing bird box automata, marked from Germany. Clockwork operation, flip the switch and the bird appears, chirping and flapping its wings, entertains for about 15 seconds and disappears back into the box. These bird boxes were quite a novelty in 1890 and generally owned by the aristocracy in Europe, and were brought to the U.S. in the early 20th century. A wonderful example and in great operating condition. Detailed brass case is flawless and comes with a bird winding key.
Condition: (Excellent).
