FANTASTIC SHARPS "OLD RELIABLE" CARTRIDGE BELT.

This rare belt is very similar to the belt worn by Jesse Hendricks, the famed buffalo hunter, shown with his heavy barrel Sharps buffalo rifle and wearing a belt that displays the double oval buckle system as well as the double thin shoulder straps. This photo can be seen on page 316 in the book entitled "SHARPS FIREARMS", Early Metallic Cartridge Firearms and Model 1874 Sporting rifle by Marcot, Paxton, Bailey, and Labowskie. The belt measures 4" in width with 2" cartridge loops, has the twin buckles, nickel plated and stamped Solid Brass USA with twin straps. Belt has two thin leather shoulder straps with the early roller buckles for adjustment. The belt measures 43.5" in length from the buckle prongs to the farthest strap hole. On the strap end, it exhibits the "OLD RELIABLE" branded cartouche in a 2" by 1/2" rectangle with clipped corners. The cartridge loops will hold any .40 or .45 caliber rifle round, and the extra wide 4" belt fully protects all but the longest of rounds. CONDITION: Excellent. Every cartridge loop is intact, and all of the leather is still fairly supple. The shoulder straps are intact with no breaks. The cartouche is strong with period age darkening overlapping. The nickel- plated buckles show some finish wear. An incredible early Sharps belt that was found in an old hunting camp in Northern Ontario, Canada.
