This attractive dirk features a straight diamond section blade with thin tapered center flats. Both sides have 6-1/2" blued panels with engraved and gilded wreath and foliate motifs. The downward turned gilt brass guard finials have chased eagle heads showing great detail. The center of the guard on the front features a large chased anchor. Diamond section ebony handle with diamond section checkering. Gilt brass pillow pommel with fluted top. Complete with its original leather sheath with brass mounts. Throat mount with a frog stud with chased Roman helmet. CONDITION: Excellent. Blade retains nearly all of its original gilt, blued and polished finishes. Hilt retains generous traces of gilt finish in protected areas, especially on pommel. Right eagle on guard has a hole through its beak, perhaps for a knot. Grip excellent. Sheath leather excellent, mounts have been cleaned and no longer retain a gilt finish. An extraordinary naval dirk in remarkable condition.
