Scarce and highly desirable variation of a strong box that was used by a competitor to the larger Wells Fargo & Co. Face exhibits very faint black stenciled lettering "LANGTON'S PIONEER EXPRESS." Also included is an oversized leatherbound ledger dated 1867. Spine reads: "L.P. EXP. CO. / MARYSVILLE." Marysville is one of the larger Gold Rush towns located north of Sacramento along the Feather River. Ledger mentions iconic mining towns of the era: Browns Valley, Nevada City, San Juan, Smartsville, French Corral, Carson City, Timbuctoo, Crystal Peak, Foster's Bar, Camptonville, Downieville, etc. CONDITION: Good. Book pages are tight to binding.
