This 1750-1760 extensively engraved map horn measures about 12" across the bow. The horn features a large British crest above a panoply of arms, a cannon, a British flag, several grenades, and a triangular stack of cannon balls. Below this is the label "NEW York" with the large and detailed cityscape below. There are six engraved and labeled forts, including Fort Edward, Fort Miller, Fort Stanwix, Fort Harkeman, and Fort Hendrick. Other labelled places include "Skeneckedy", "Still / Water", "Half Moon", "Saratoga", and "Albany". There are detailed rivers, towns, churches, fort layouts with cannons, and two birds. Slightly convex wooden plug with iron staple for strap attachment. Tapered spout section with rounded relief ring. CONDITION: Very attractive dark honey patina. Engraving worn on inside of horn from extensive carrying. Wooden plug has been cleaned. A very attractive French and Indian War map horn that was actually carried.
