LINEMAR “MECHANICAL ROLLER SKATER POPEYE” TIN-LITHOGRAPHED WIND-UP TOY

C. 1950s. Linemar “Mechanical Roller Skater Popeye” Tin-Lithographed Wind-Up Toy. Japanese tin-lithographed mechanical toy depicting Popeye the Sailor wearing his characteristic sailor cap, black-and-red shirt, fabric trousers, and oversized roller skates. Retains molded pipe with wooden bowl, articulated arms, rear winding key and underside skating/guide mechanism. When wound, the toy is designed to skate forward while periodically changing direction; it remains functioning as intended. Shows scattered lithograph scratching, rubbing and minor paint loss, particularly to projecting edges, arms, hands and skate surfaces. Fabric trousers exhibit age-related wrinkling, discoloration, and light wear. Pipe remains present. Metal winding and skating components show expected oxidation and wear.
