(1985). Marble jar number one. Population Portrait #5 is Mark Matthew's first series of jars. So this is the first jar Mark produced. There were three total jars produced in Portrait #5. Two were sold and one is still owned by the artist. Jar was personally taken to Mark's studio to authenticate. All marbles are original and were repositioned by Mark to their proper order. The original lid was damaged by previous owner, and was made and replaced to the original design by Mark Matthews. There are a total of 41 marbles which include, seven gumballs, three transparent gumballs, six early iridescent experimentals, three random Frit end of day, two grey format end of day, two transparent swirls (one red and one green), one four bubble clear air twist, one solid core swirl, twelve two-sided flat ribbons, two threaded toppers, one experimental latticino, and one four-paneled transparent. All marbles are signed with "M/M". Jar Height with Lid: 15 - 3/4" T.
