Offered is a fine Colt Single Action Army that was shipped with 50 guns on October 10, 1882 to Wexell & Degress offices in Mexico City and New York. Factory letter lists the gun as a .45 Colt caliber, barrel length not listed, shipped blue with rubber grips. The gun sports a 5-1/2" barrel and is nickel plated with vintage pearl grips. All the markings are perfect which would indicate, given its shipment to Mexico, that it was dealer plated and the pearl grips fitted at the time. The barrel retains approximately 75% original factory nickel, turned brown patina at the muzzle and wear to the left side. The ejector housing retains almost all of the nickel, as does the cyclinder. The frame retains approximately 60% nickel, with the balance flaked to a smooth grey patina. The pearl grips are well fitted, vintage to the gun, and have a couple of only minor chips. All four Colt clicks, locks up perfectly. All matching numbers. Strong clean bore. Really fine black powder Colt with South of the Border history. A gun that was there during the wildest times on the Western Mexico-Texas border. Wexell and Degress office in New York was like Tiffany's. Upgrading colts for the border frontier was common place and as good as any factory work.
