Manufactured from the late 1850's to the early 1860's. Serial No. 1404 is listed as a second model second type. It is a standard Civil War era single action percussion revolver, six shot, 7-3/4" octagon barrel. It is referred to as a Navy model but it is not martially marked. The barrel stamp is fine. All original nipples, one of which is broken. All metal finishes are basically a dark chocolate brown patina. Brass trigger guard is a fine mustard yellow. The two piece walnut grips retains a majority of the original varnish with no cracks or chips. Operates, but timing is off. Strong rifling with some minor corrosion. This type of revolver was found at the scene of assault to Major Seward on the night that President Abraham Lincoln was killed.
