The U.S.&S. Boxed Colt pistol was made under government contract on February 11th, 1943 and they delivered a total of 55,000 pistols by November 27th, 1943. It is a standard 1911 model with a 5” barrel chambered for the .45 ACP cartridge. Finished using the Du-Lite black oxide process over mild sand-blasting which produced a light blue-grey color. Serial No. 1053032 is from the latter part of the production run and both the slide and the frame have the “P” proof stamp. The “P” proof on the top of the side is offset to the left. The left side of the frame has the inspector stamp R.C.D. for Robert C. Downie (1942-1945). Every single part on this pistol is correct for this manufacture, and the gun remains in as new condition, showing no wear of any kind, albeit a couple of minor storage marks. Comes in an original U.S. Government pasteboard box with an extra wrapped, never-opened magazine in the green wax paper. This is one of the more desirable and harder to find World War II manufactured pistols, and would be impossible to find a finer example.
