Colt factory letter states that this pistol was shipped on May 13th, 1921 to Hibbard, Spenser, Bartlett & Co. in Chicago, Illinois in a shipment of ten guns that features 5" barrels, blued finish, chambered for the .45 ACP cartridge, stocks not listed but are standard original diamond checkered walnut panels. This was a time when Chicago's history is most remembered for the bootlegger Al Capone and the gangsters that ruled the city, which included Mayor Big Bill Thompson. The gun has survived in phenomenal condition. Retains approximately 97% of the brilliant high polish Colt factory blue. Every part is original to this gun. The grips are near mint. It has a mint two-toned Colt magazine. There is a light drag line and a small rub on left side of frame. Has the proper sights, proper small checkered pre-war parts with the long smooth trigger and flat mainspring housing. Bore and action are clean. Beautiful pre-war Model 1911 dating to a tumultuous city during a period of history often captured in film and literature.
