Offered is an extremely high condition very early original Springfield Model 1903 military bolt action rifle that was manufactured in 1916. Standard features include 24" barrel, chambered for the .30-govt-06 cartridge, blued finish, and walnut stocks. The barrel is stamped "SA 5-16" with the Ordanance bomb. This rifle has all the early highly finished blued milled parts. All correct for era to include: a high hump type two hand guard, early dish-knob rear sight, wide finger groove stock, type four checkered buttplate, early type two magazine cutoff, and two stock bolts. Cartouche is not visible. Frame retains 85% of the original finish. Straight bolt handle has basically turned patina. Wood is near mint with a couple of minor dings. No stock firing proof mark but number "36" is stamped in its place instead. Rear barrel band retains most of its high polish blue finish. Some fire blue on band retaining spring. Barrel and fore end retain most of the original finish with some minor muzzle wear. Strong bore and perfect action. ME reading 1. The trigger guard group retains 70% high polish blue with the balance freckling. Some one has etched ID number on the top of the receiver.
