Smallest size of the T. H. Bate's Serpentine Spinner, patented June 12, 1855 by Charles DeSaxe of New York, NY. This tiny model is marked TH Bate, Patent, June 12, 1855 on one side and TH Bate, NY on the other. There is no marking for size. This bait measures 1 1/2" in length, not including the through wire hardware. It is the #4 size and is a nearly identical match for the catalogue cut shown on page 23 of "19th Century Fishing Lures" by Arlan Carter. Condition is very good having damage to the blade wrapped around the body of the bait. Both the rear treble hook and frontbox swivel are attached with early silver rings and appear to possibly be original.
T. H. BATE 1855 PATENT SERPENTINE SPINNER.
