.30-40 U.S. caliber with a 28" barrel. This is a very early third year production rifle manufactured in 1897. It is a standard configuration with a full round barrel, blued finish, walnut stock, rifle butt and case colored hammer and buttplate. This rifle remains in beautiful all original condition. The barrel retains approximately 98% original factory blue finish. Sides and top of frame retains approximately 80% of the original factory high polish blue. The majority of blue is on the sides of the magazine. The lever retains approximately 30% blue. The balance is a pleasing smooth patina. Walnut stocks are excellent, proud to metal, with no cracks or major chips, just a couple of minor impressions. Hammer retains the majority of its case colors. Buttplate is grey patina. Rear sight slot is empty. Rifle sports the desirable Slidin' Lyman model 21 receiver sight and a standard front sporting sight. Forearm has the ebony inset. Strong clean bore. Perfect action. This is an extremely fine condition example of a second model 1895. The first 5,000 guns were termed "Flatsides", so this is one of the earlier second models. It is getting extremely difficult to find high condition antique range second model model 1895 rifles, and this one is a gem.
