.46 rimfire with an 8" barrel. This revolver started life as a standard martially marked Remington Model 1858 new model army .44 caliber percussion revolver. After the patent for the bored through cylinder expired in 1866, numerous black powder percussion revolvers were altered to accept the self-contained cartridge. These were converted to fire the .44 caliber centerfire as well as the .46 caliber rimfire cartridge. This gun still retains all of the original martial inspector marks. The cylinder retains approximately 80% of the reapplied blue finish with some minor pitting underneath. Balance of gun has traces of original blue finish turning smooth gun metal brown patina. Original grips are very good with owner’s initials on right side. Action is perfect. Strong clean bore. These are very interesting revolvers in that they were used throughout the Civil War, and by way of conversion, found their way out to the Western Frontiers prior to the introduction of the 1873 Colt and 1875 Remington. A true Wild West big bore holster gun in overall fine original condition.
