Serial number is 31469, caliber is .41 Swiss rimfire, barrel length is 33". This model 1869 was manufactured by one of nine firms that were awarded the Government contract. Left side of frame is stamped W.vstiger Thun. This contractor produced 15,200 of these rifles. Like most model 1869 rifles, this was converted in 1871 simply by removing the loading gate cover and installing a magazine cut off. The rifle is standard, as issued, with regards to the conversion. Has a blued finish with walnut stock, a checkered forend done in a square design, two barrel bands with front barrel band manufactured with sling swivel, sling swivel in rear stock, military front and rear sight, metal cleaning rod, trigger guard with toe spur, metal buttplate. This rifle remains in fine original condition. The stocks are excellent with no cracks or chips, proud to metal, sharp checkering with the Swiss shield and cross cartouche on right stock. All metal surfaces retain 95% of their original finish, starting to patina. The band retain springs retain 95% bright blue. All matching numbers including the rear sight. Has a perfect action and a strong clean rifled bore. An extremely high condition example of a fairly scarce very early Military rifle.
