.38 centerfire with a 3-1/2" barrel. Manufactured in the 1880s. One of the harder to find Merwin is this scarce five shot, .38 caliber, close top, spur trigger, single action. Features the dog’s head gutta percha grips in near mint condition. The gun is basically clean gun metal that appears to have been cleaned with no original finish remaining. Has strong legends on barrel and frame. Operates but slightly off time. Rifling visible with black powder abrasions. The gun is loose and the front sight has been filed down. Given the scarcity of this revolver, the work of a competent gunsmith would greatly enhance its value.
