.22 rimfire caliber with a 23" barrel. Manufactured in 1946. Arguably the finest .22 semi-automatic rifle ever manufactured, both in terms of accuracy, reliability and quality. This rifle was manufactured in the first year of post-war production and is standard in all respects. Features blued finish, plain pistol grip walnut stock, with high polish blue steel buttplate and loading tube in butt. The barrel retains approximately 98% original factory rust blue with a hint of muzzle wear. The frame retains fine amounts of the high polish factory blue with some very light high edge wear and some minor age freckles on left side. The walnut stocks are excellent with no cracks or chips, never refinished and retain the majority of their original varnish. The buttplate retains 80% of the original factory blue finish with the usual freckling and high edge wear. Forend cap retains 98% original blue. Screws are perfect. Bore is near mint. Action like new. What really sets this rifle apart is the addition of the old school Stith mounts, the front portion of which utilizes the rear rifle sight barrel slot. The rear mount has been attached to the top of the frame. Scope is a period J.C. Higgins Jr. manufactured by Weaver of El Paso, Texas and appears to be their standard 330 tube scope, popular in the 1930s and 40s. It has standard cross hairs with perfect optics. An excellent early post-war rifle with period correct optics and lots of condition.
