.45 caliber with a 7-1/2" barrel. This revolver was shipped on October 12th, 1877 in a 50 gun shipment to famed New York dealers Schuyler, Hartley & Graham. It was shipped as a standard revolver with the 7-1/2" barrel, blued finish, .45 caliber and walnut stocks. This was the exact specification of the revolvers being manufactured for the U.S. cavalry at the time. This retailer was one of the largest of the era and shipped firearms to all Western destinations. This revolver retains approximately 30% of the period nickel finish. It was very common practice by the dealers to nickel plate guns for the clients, especially during this era when it was nearly impossible to get a nickel plated gun directly from Colt, as the majority of the Model 1873s were being manufactured for the military. In addition the walnut grips were replaced with a pair of Colt gutta percha grips which have worn almost smooth over time. Strong legends. The cylinder is not numbered, so it had to be a period replacement. In addition, the ejector rod head is the half moon style Indexes perfectly. Has a strong clean bore. The frame has an "S" stamped above serial number and there is a white painted museum ID number on butt.
