Known for their craftsmanship, the Meeks of Frankfort, KY, jewelers and watchmakers by trade, were famous for their early Kentucky reels. This tiny #1 model is no exception. This all brass example, measuring 1-5/8", is clearly marked JF & BF MEEK, FRANKFORT KY No 1, as well as 3 numbered screw holes with only the #1 screw being marked. Condition is about excellent exhibiting minor wear, with what appears to be a complete and unaltered foot stamped 3, a clean half handle crank at the 12 O'clock position, ivory grasp having a crack that is typical for this maker given itsage, and a single click knob at 9 O'clock. 2" width. This reel is an extremely desirable example from this maker, dating back to the early days of sport.
