Barrel length 26", .38-40 caliber. Manufactured 1889. Standard features are: full octagon barrel, full magazine, blued finish, checkered walnut fore-end, with walnut stock and butt plate. The barrel and magazine are a smooth brown gray patina with sharp legends and standard Colt sporting sights. The frame retains approx 40% blue on left side, slight less on right side. Very good walnut stock with no cracks. The forearm has several small chips and the checkering shows wear but there is some fire blue still remaining on screws. It has a strong rifled bore and a perfect action. Colt Lightning rifle was a contemporary arm to the more famous lever actions but offered a far greater rate of fire and were a formidable weapon during its era of use. This is a nice, clean, above average, honest example.
