Barrel 24", .22 rimfire. The name Adolph Niedner needs no explanation to any long term firearms aficionado, as he is one of the most celebrated gunsmiths of all time. The custom bolt on this rifle is stamped "A.O. Niedner Malden. MASS". Adolph worded out of this address from 1890-1921. Using the Springfield Model 1903 action as his cornerstone, he developed a special bolt that would allow the firing of a .22 rimfire cartridge. The breech of the barrel has a collar and the barrel itself has been lined for a .22 caliber. The military style front sight band has a custom machined front sight. The bridge and barrel have the A.O. Springfield scope blocks. The receiver has a short stem Lyman 48 peep sight. Stock is a classic style, oil finish, dark American walnut, straight comb, no flutes, checkered at wrist and fore-end, with black composite grip cap and a black composite butt plate. Comes equipped with sling eyes. Stock is beautiful near mint condition. The floor plate and trigger guard have turned a soft gray brown patina. There is some thinning of finish at forward edge of barrel collar, otherwise rifle retains the majority of the custom blue finish. Fine bore and action. An ingenious and very special .22 rimfire custom full size pre-war bolt action sporting rifles by one of the masters of his craft.
