.69 caliber flintlock, barrel length 42". The Model 1816 musket was manufactured at the Springfield Armory and the Harpers Ferry Armory from 1816-1844. There were also numerous contracts for this model. 350,000 were manufactured at the Harpers Ferry Armory and this rifle is an example of one of those. This musket is dated 1825, is considered a Type 2, and features a browned finish on all iron parts except the block. The sling swivel is on the bow of the trigger guard. The trigger guard is riveted to plate. Standard features include: full length walnut stock, two barrel bands, the front band has the integral front sight, the lock is stamped "Harpers Ferry 1825" as well as eagle with "US". "AOP" is stamped on hammer. All metal is a smooth brown patina. Stock does have two 1/2" chips at tang and breech, otherwise excellent, with some darkening at butt. Smooth bore, very good with usual abrasion.
