8-3/8" barrel in .357 Magnum caliber. Manufactured 1956-1957. Extremely scarce and desirable high condition Smith & Wesson Pre-Model 27 revolver that features the beautiful factory deep rich high polish blue finish with adjustable rear sight, high front sight, case colored target hammer, case colored serrated trigger, pinned barrel, recessed chambers, six shot, double action, and comes in one of the earliest blue boxes available that was introduced in 1957. This early blue box has the grey metal corners with the simple white end label that states "Smith & Wesson .357 Magnum Blued 8-3/8". This style of box is one of the scarcest examples known, as there is no Smith & Wesson logo on top, and no other labels besides end label. It was probably only available for a short period in 1957 or the end of 1956. The box is not even pictured in the Smith & Wesson book. The revolver is in superb all original condition, showing in near new condition throughout with only a light drag line as a detractor. It is also interesting in that the grips are the two-piece smooth walnut large size target grips, smooth with silver medallions and black inner discs. According to the Smith book, this type of grip was introduced in 1967, but there is no number inside panels and this gun is in as new condition in its box as purchased. We have no way to determine if the grips were replaced or possible special order as very few of these oversized smooth grips are found with the black inner discs, and we will leave this to the Smith & Wesson experts to determine. Regardless it is an immaculate early Smith in an even rarer box.
