Caliber is .240 Apex, barrel 23". Manufactured in 1921. According to the Holland & Holland research letter this double ejector rifle was manufactured in 1921. It featured 23" steel barrels, two triggers with select walnut with cheek piece, pistol grip, grip cap and checkered butt with an LOP of 14-1/2" weighing in at 7 pounds, 12 ounces. It is a royal grade side lock with detachable locks, treble grip top lever and auto safe. The barrels measure 23" and retain 98% of the beautifully re-applied blue finish. The original factory legend is somewhat thinned and something was x'd out at right barrel breech. It has a finely scored rib that runs 7-3/4" from lock and has the original fire blue fixed rear sight. The front sight is a ramp with a brass bead and a large hood. The frame has been expertly scroll engraved, right side of lock is stamped Holland & Holland and the engraving is the fine delicate hand and fine coverage. The base of frame is stamped Royal Hammerless Ejector. The left side plates mirror the right. Frame retains virtually all of the re-applied nickel finish. The tang, safety and release are all engraved alike. It has a fine dark heavily grained oil finished stock that features fine line checkering, stock has a dull nickel plaque and a horn grip cap with a red recoil pad and a small roll over cheek piece. The trigger guard retains approximately 80% of its re-applied finish. Forearm checkering does show some minor wear and dents and the decorative inlays are also engraved. Locks up like a drum, has strong visible rifling. The .240 Holland & Holland Magnum (also known as the .240 Apex, .240 Belted Nitro Express, .240 Magnum Rimless, or .240 Super Express) is a centerfire sporting rifle cartridge developed in England in the 1920s, primarily for use in hunting deer and plains game. This round has always been closely associated with the firm of Holland & Holland, rifle and gun makers of London, England, which has built more magazine and double rifles in this caliber than anyone else. The factory letter lists the barrels are 25" but they currently measure 23". Several of the screws are slightly boogered and need to be trued. There is an 1/8" chip of wood on forend where it meets frame.
