Caliber .56 bore, Barrel length 45”. Fine original example of mid -19th century long rifle. Lock is stamped “H.E. Leman Lancaster Pa” Leman worked for Tryon of Lancaster from 1834-1887 and was both a gun builder and lock maker. Gun is not signed so it is uncertain if the entire gun, or just the lock , was made by Leman. Features a part octagon to round barrel that is basically all brown patina with some erosion at breech and nipple. Features a full length stock, the rod retained by three brass thimbles with a brass nose cap. Barrel is pinned rather than wedged. Single trigger. Brass butt plate, trigger guard and side plate. German silver thumb plate. Rifle has the typical Pennsylvania profile but is completely unadorned. Hammer does not stay cocked.
