Caliber .36 bore percussion, Barrel length 42-1/4”. James Ruby was a gun smith in Belmont County, Ohio, mid -19th century. It is a beautiful all original long rifle features: full octagon barrel, wind drift rear sight, blade front sight, unusual tang based rear sight attachment. Top of barrel flat signed “JRuby”. The lock is stamped “Henry Parker Warranted” Henry Parker was a Perry county lock maker. The lock hammer and barrel are a deep dark chocolate patina with usual abrasions at nipple and breech of barrel. The stock is finely striped maple with no incisions. Pie shaped thumb plate, heavy brass heal plate, trigger guard, double set triggers, patch box with no engraving. Rollover cheek piece with a brass quarter moon decorations. Barrel is pinned with two silver escutcheons. Brass tipped rod is retained by three brass thimbles. Stock has a piano finish with no chips or cracks. Working condition including set trigger. Fine condition, all original, early Ohio rifle.
