Caliber .58 percussion, Barrel length is 40”. Rifle has three barrel bands and the blued 1858 rear sight. Left side of barrel is stamped “VP” with Eagle. The “VP” on barrel with serifs can be seen on Page 102 in the book, “C.S. Armory Richmond by Paul Davies”. Top of barrel is dated but only the 1 and 8 are visible. Lock is dated 1863 and is stamped “C.S. Richmond - Virginia” (with serifs, see pg. 102 in book.) Barrel bands are stamped “U” on right side for up. Middle band has an “E” inspector mark. The lock plate exhibits 40% original case colors, and hammer has turned patina. The barrel and bands, as well as trigger guard, are finished in the white and are fairly clean. The butt plate and nose cap are brass. Walnut stocks are very good to excellent condition, no visible stamps. Has the low hump lock plate. Brass buttplate is unmarked which is proper for 1863 guns. Brass stock tip is also proper. Ram rod and swivels are correct for this gun. Very fine example of a popular, Mid - War Richmond manufactured rifle.
