40.5” barrel in .75 bore. This musket was standard military issue Model of 1822 manufactured as a flintlock and was period converted to percussion in the early to mid-19th century. Rifle remains in all original, as converted condition. Barrel is dated 1822 on both sides a breech with factory codes on left side, three barrel bands with center band sling swivel, numerous French proofs on bands, lock plate stamped “de Montague”, trigger guard has the two finger grooves, French acceptance stamps on trigger guard and tang, period correct ramrod. All metal was finished in the white and is now a mixed grey-brown patina with age spotting. One piece walnut stock. “St. Etienne” repair stamps on right side of stock dated 1857, probably time of conversion. Name stamped on bottom of stock, and a large chip on left side of stock at butt. Butt plate is rusted. Fine, untouched, all original attic-find French Model 1822 conversion musket.
