Knife has a 10” drop-point blade with hand forged iron hand guard and wood handle. Remains in very good condition with deep, dark patina. The handmade leather frog is very good. This Bowie knife was purchased from the Museum of Southern History. The museum states that this knife was carried by C.J. DuBuisson, Company I 1st Mississippi light artillery known as Bowmans Battery. Comes with a photo of DuBuisson, military records recorded by Vonnie Zullo of the Horse Soldier, Gettysburg. Interesting historical Confederate Bowie knife. This Bowie knife comes with a whole packet of history. Includes a letter from the Museum of Southern History detailing the purchase of this knife to Lynn Owens, that it was given to the museum from the great grandson of who was 1st Corp. J. DuBuisson, Comapny 1, 1st Mississippi Light Artillery. This unit fought at Vicksburg. Knife was given to the museum in 1989 but the great-grandson, Charles Hess. DuBuisson’s service record and complete history including all enlistment dates and discharge dates. It is extremely difficult to find a D guard Bowie with the right lineage and all supporting documentation from relatives and a museum. This portfolio accompanies the knife.
