26-7/8" barrel in .36 bore percussion. William Billinghurst operated a gun shop in Rochester, New York from 1827 to 1880. This rifle is a percussion, which would place its manufacture sometime after 1840. It features an engraved Baker lock. These were manufactured in Albany, New York, beginning in 1839. It has a full octagon barrel stamped "Billinghurst Rochester, NY", wind-drift rear sight, fixed front post, turned muzzle, half stock, pewter nose cap, brass buttplate, and walnut stock. Has a provision for a lollipop tang sight (not present). The tang screws have been replaced. All metal is a grey patina. Has a period wooden ramrod retained by two thimbles (rear has repair). Sports a single trigger, brass trigger guard, single wedge, and engraved hammer and lock. Stock has several repairs at wrist and forend. Action works fine. Strong rifling with usual black powder abrasion.
