5-1/2" barrel in .45 ACP/.45 Auto rimfire. These revolvers were manufactured by the United States Army for issue during the first World War. They were built on the large M-Frame and chambered to use the same ammunition as the Colt model 1911 with use of half moon clips or the 45 auto rim which was a rimmed .45 ACP cartridge. These were finished in blue with smooth walnut grips and lanyard ring. The bottom of the barrel is stamped "United States Property". Butt is stamped "U.S. Army Model 1917". The bottom of the left grip is stamped with the letter "P". The serial number 79214 will be found under the barrel, on the butt, and the back of the cylinder. Military proof marks will be found on the back of the cylinder, frame and barrel as well. This revolver retains approximately 50% of its original military blue finish with balance a soft patina to gun metal grey with traces of color on hammer and trigger. Original grips are very good with some minor chipping. This revolver functions flawlessly in both single and double action. Has a strong clean bore.
