24" barrel in .44-40 caliber. Manufactured 1883. Standard rifle in popular .44-40 caliber. Features full octagon barrel, full magazine, original Winchester sporting sights, blued finish, walnut stocks, rifle butt. Stocks are very good and were refinished long ago and are slightly shy to metal. there is a 1-1/2" repaired crack at toe and a 1/4" blemish to the left wrist. Forend is proud to metal and was replaced at one time with proper style. All metal is a smooth, pleasing mix of dark blue-brown patina. Barrel legends are sharp. Very good rifling but does have a ring in bore 2" from muzzle. A picturesque example of the gun that won the West.
