The 51-1/2” tapered octagonal barrel is in .43 caliber smooth bore. Barrel signed on top flat, near breech, with partially worn signature and with “A/star/C” proof mark on left flat. Miquelet lock with the facing parts chased with scrollwork and the lock plate indistinctly signed below mainspring. Forend of deeply chased iron panels with wood panel in the center, iron panels chased with borders on each side and vines and anthropomorphic figures on bottom and a 10-1/2” embossed panel decorated with floral scrolls at muzzle, chiseled face at ramrod entry and wood panel with line on each side. Buttstock of slender section and familiar form, the comb with tubular iron bar chased with panels of scrollwork, pierced iron panels with floral scrolls forward of the lock plate, trigger guard and on the left side opposite the lock. Iron butt plate, the sides with narrow iron panels chased with repeating floral scrolls, chased iron trigger guard and trigger, and single chased and pierced iron barrel band. Good condition with light grey patina overall, metal parts have been chemically cleaned, stock with losses to wood between lock plate and barrel tang, on left side along barrel near the breech and about 8” on forend. Some areas of rough wood, due to removal of panels. Scrollwork panel rear of lock is absent.
