Manufactured in 1886. Offered is an extremely scarce and high condition Winchester Model 1885 (High Wall) with the so called thick side frame. Factory letter states that this rifle, in this caliber, was shipped in the second year of production on September 11, 1886 with a No. 3 30” octagon barrel with plain trigger. This beautiful rifle is just as it was when shipped from the factory. Although it does have an adjustable trigger it is not listed in the letter. The barrel retains approximately 95% original factory blue finish with razor sharp edges and legends. Has its original sporting sights. It is interesting to note that it is stamped “Cal. 40-60” with “Winchester” spelled out between caliber and frame. Has the rare and early heavy frame that still retains approximately 75% of its original case colors. The lever retains approximately 30% case colors. Walnut stocks are excellent, proud to metal, no cracks or chips and remains in superb condition with only a couple of very minor abrasions. Action is tight as new, bore exhibits strong rifling with minor black powder abrasions. Extremely fine condition, early, High Wall.
