Octagonal, smoothbore, case-hardened, over and under barrels with flat sides. Top flat marked “Smith London” in fancy script, bottom barrel flat stamped with Irish registration number. Gold band at breech and silver-lined touchholes. Diminutive front sight and rear notched sight. Flintlock with unique mechanism, where springs are attached to cocks and when cocked, hold them in place. Locks and cocks have finely engraved scrolls and patterns. Fire-blued springs, waterproof pans, reinforced cocks and thumb-engaged cock safeties. Large engraved steel triggerguard with fire blued double triggers. Figured walnut stock with shaped checkered patterns and vacant octagonal silver wrist escutcheon. Engraved steel buttcap with ramrod in grip. Ramrod unscrews and can be removed. Excellent condition, showing nearly no use. Retains 98% case colors on barrels and 70% fading case colors on locks, fire blued components retain 90% finish. Stock retains original finish with some light scattered storage marks. This is a very scarce and unusual design, showing fine craftsmanship and mechanical talent.
