Large knife overall length 17", blade length 11-3/4". Circa 1840. Painted on the haft with Robert Abel's trademark red nail polish, inventory "6". The blade with long elegant clip, swedge half the length of blade on each side, stamped "G. Wostenholm & Son Washington Works". Also in large letters "IXL" then in banner "The Real IXL Knife/Hunter's Companion". Haft stamped with soldier on horseback. Blade in wonderful condition. 95% original polish, a few cleaning scratches at tip on each side. German silver mounts. S shaped crossguard, flat pommel plate. Beautiful red stag grip. Leather scabbard, German silver mounts. Embossed in gold floral and leaf borders on both sides. Center scabbard on both sides decorated with gold logo of Wostenholm company.
