Circa 1835. Blade stamped in French "Le Dernier Ressort" which means "The Last Resort". Stamped on the haft by the maker "W (crown) R R.S. Stenton" with the promotional motto "Can Cut a Bow and Split a Dollar". Light pitting overall to the blade, which has been cleaned, edge has been sharpened in modern times. No scabbard. Pictured on page 16 of the book "Bowie Knives Origin & Development"; also in the Bill Williamson auction of his estate, lot 3604. Cast German silver one piece guard and hilt with ornate fluted edges, ivory panel insert on each side decorated with Pique style inlay.
