This is a standard U.S. issue Saddle Ring Carbine from the Indian Wars period. Standard 1873 carbine stamped rear sight, original saddle ring bar and ring, single band. Block is stamped “U.S. Model 1873”. Left side of walnut stock has a visible but not readable cartouche. Has the script “P” on wrist, brass unit ID plaque stamped “15”. This is a very good, solid, as found all original trapdoor carbine. Metal is a soft blue brown patina. Wood is very good to excellent with no cracks, albeit a bit dry with usual abrasions. Fine action. Visible rifling.
