This is a very early First Model Schofield cavalry revolver. The walnut grips has visible but not readable cartouche on left panel. Butt is stamped "U.S.". There is an "L" stamped under serial number on cylinder. Bottom of barrel is stamped "L.P.". This large single action, top break was named after Colonel George Schofield. While the markings are quite strong, the revolver retains no original blue. It is a mix of grey-brown patina with some light salt and pepper and some minor pitting on backstrap. Indexes perfectly. Strong rifling but does have black powder abrasion. The factory letter states that this revolver was shipped in its present configuration. Shipped from the factory July 12, 1875 to the U.S. National Armory at Springfield, Massachusetts.
