Circa 1840's. Clip point blade stamped on tang A. DAVY’S CELEBRATED AMERICAN HUNTING KNIFE; four decorative ‘ciphers’ stamped on face of blade: “Alabama” “Hunting Knife” and two more that are only partially legible. Two piece striped horn scales with escutcheon on obverse, held by ‘birdseye’ pins; decorative nickel silver crossguards and coffin-shaped horse-alligator pommels. Blade with 50% original polish, but pitted in the area that remains exposed when the knife is closed. Grip scales probably replaced.
