This extremely early Colt frame dates to the 1873-1874 period. Frames were stamped with serial number and no inspector, but fall under the Ainsworth time frame. Trigger guard is no. 116731 with "G" inspector stamp. Barrel is no. 4011 and has the "JTC" (John T. Cleveland 1876 to 1877) inspector stamp. Backstrap has no serial number and is simply stamped with an inspector's "C", which is condemned "C". Cylinder has only one visible serial number of a partial '0'. Left side of the frame has a two line patent date with "U.S." as seen in Figure 2-6 on page 41 in the book "Cavalry Artillery Revolvers" by Kopec. One piece walnut grips. Ejector rod housing the Renaldo Carr-era "K". Ejector rod head is the early donut style. This artillery revolver was part of the 1900 to 1903 overhaul process of existing inventory Colt Cavalry Models. Indexes and locks up perfectly. Strong, clean bore with some very minor frosting. Metal is basically grey-brown soft patina with very good grips.
