Manufactured 1965. This model is listed as the 99 PE Presentation Grade. These were the first regular production factory engraved rifles since the 99 K was discontinued prior to World War II. The receiver bridge is stamped "SAVAGE MODEL 99 M", indicating Monte Carlo stock. The Model 99 PE has a mountain lion engraved on the right side of the receiver, and an elk on the left, both surrounded by floral engraving top to bottom. These rifles features very select hand checkered walnut stocks with pistol grip, sling eyes, gold plated trigger, top tang safety and cocking indicator. Even the lever on this deluxe model is engraved. Features a blued round barrel, sporting front sight, folding leaf rear sight, cartridge counter. Photographs of the 99 PE can be found on page 98 in the new book "Savage 99 Rifle" by David Royal. The rear sight is pictured on page 99. These rifles were discontinued in 1970. Standard buttplate has been replaced with a classic old-school solid red rubber recoil pad. Muzzle shows a hint of blue wear, otherwise all metal is in near new condition. Has a jeweled bolt. Wood is near mint with sharp checkering and proud to metal with no cracks or chips. An absolutely stunning factory engraved post-war Savage Model 99 rifle.
