Manufactured 1919. According to our information, this revolver falls into the tail end of the U.S. 1917 Model. Features the original military "J.M.G." inspector stamp (John M. Gilbert) who inspected Colt Model 1917. Does not have any other military marks. Barrel is stamped "COLT DA .45" and has double line barrel address. Bottom of barrel is stamped "4 42 N". No U.S. markings on butt. One can only assume this was made up after the war using surplus parts and was nickel plated for civilian use. Lettering is all sharp. Retains approximately 75% of the period nickel finish. Black Colt composite grips and lanyard. Chambered for the .45 ACP cartridge. Indexes and locks up like new. Grips are excellent to near mint with no cracks or chips. Strong, clean rifled bore. It is out estimation that this gun was made up at the factory and nickel plated for civilian use using war-time parts mixed with new parts for the commercial trade; this was done as the war was already over and there were no need for more military guns.
