Probably circa 1812 to 1814, very few specimens are known. Made in Evansburg, Pennsylvania and commissioned by the Commonweath of Pennsylvania for the War of 1812. This contract pistol closely resembles the French Model An. XIII flintlock dragoon pistol dating around 1805. Round smoothbore barrel with "P" proofmark stamped on left side, near breech. Flat lockplate with rounded tail, stamped "EVANS" in center, brass pan, reinforced cock. Brass furniture in the french style. Walnut half stock with steel ramrod. Good condition, all steel component retain a freckled light grey patina and have been cleaned at some time. Appears to be original flint, but internal main spring is replaced, as is wood below lock, as it apparently broke at some point due to pressure from broken spring. Brass retains a mellow patina and stock is very good, as refinished, with repaired crack around grip and restoration below lock. Only a few of these rare pistols are known to exist!
