Manufactured 1863. This beautiful 1861 factory engraved Colt Navy exhibits all the standard features: six shot, single action percussion, engraved roll-die cylinder scene, 1860 Army style barrel with ratchet lever, brass trigger guard and backstrap, blue and case colored finish. All matching numbers to include wedge and cylinder. In addition, the letter "E", often found on factory engraved guns is stamped above or below the serial number with the exception of cylinder. Top of barrel has New York address. Trigger guard has traces of plating. Barrel still has traces of blue finish. Perfect cylinder scene. Frame colors have darkened. The engraving is typical scroll with punch dot background. Dog head engraved hammer. Engraved backstrap and trigger guard. Cylinder is not engraved. One piece ivory grips that appear to have been replaced and are more contemporary than the gun, but are beautifully fitted with lots of grain. The engraving on this revolver exhibits the late vine scroll; a very similar example can be seen on page 180 in the book "Colt Engraving" and appears to be the work of L. D. Nimschke. The revolver exhibits excellent mechanics and a strong, clean bore. Beautiful factory engraved Colt that comes with a period case with original Colt powder flask, Colt two-cavity bullet mold, and Eley cap tins. The case has a brass plaque inlaid in cover that reads "Harris Honard Chaplain 7th Rig R.S.V. 1863". Comes with no history on this chaplain or lineage as to ownership. Box appears to be of the period and fits this revolver perfectly.
